Pupil leave in term time

From the 1st September 2013 the law gives no entitlement to parents to take their child on holiday during term time. Any application for leave must only be in exceptional circumstances and the Head Teacher must be satisfied that the circumstances are exceptional and warrant the granting of leave. Head Teachers would not be expected to class any term time holiday as exceptional. The school can unauthorise any absence and may ask for a Doctors note as evidence. Ten unauthorised absences can trigger a Penalty Notice. This is the equivalent of one week. From September 2013 these Notices now cost £60 per child per parent if paid within 21 days and £120 if paid between 22 and 28 days. The Governors will look to issue fines for unauthorised absences. The Governors fully appreciate that holidays can be more expensive outside of term time. To help alleviate this, the school will have two weeks holiday at Whit (26th May – 6th June 2014). Thank you for your support in this matter.
