Dear Parent / Carer
I’m sure you’ll be aware that over the past
few years there have been many changes to education and what happens in
schools.
As we reach the end of this school year,
I’d like to focus on the huge changes to primary school tests. The tests have
been made harder this year and the way that the changes have been made has been
very disruptive.
This could mean that, despite their hard
work and talent, some children will not reach the standards that they were
expecting in the key stage tests. Please do not see this as any fault on the
part of either your child or their teacher: rather, it is the outcome of
changes to the national curriculum and a resetting of the expected standard.
In addition to the tests, the school will
give you an end of term report, which includes the teachers’ own assessment of
how well your child has done in reading, writing, maths and science. It will
also give you other information which will help you support your child as they
move into secondary school.
As a parent, you will want to be reassured
that your child has continued to work hard and be happy in what they do in
school. Their teacher will have kept you up to date on their progress
throughout the year, but if you have concerns or queries about your child please
do not hesitate to raise them with your child’s teacher initially.
